Life Story for Mr. Derrick Jason Zale

Mr. Derrick Jason Zale
Derrick Jason Zale, age 51, a resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 8, 2016 with his family by his side. Derrick showed incredible strength and courage during his 14-month battle with cancer.

Derrick met the love of his life, Shirley on Oct 25, 1986. They spent 30 wonderful years together. During that time they enjoyed renovating and restoring their beautiful home. Their home and yard became the focal point and meeting place for family and friends. Derrick, with Shirley shared a love for entertaining; everyone felt an immediate sense of love and welcoming when they entered their home. Derrick was a connoisseur of the grill, using his skills to bring family and friends together.

Away from their home they enjoyed seeking sun, among their travels Hawaii was Derrick's favorite.

Derrick proudly started his career at Thunder Bay Hydro as a Journeyman Lineman on April 13, 1987. Derrick had a passion for his work, was a valued employee and understood the importance of mentoring younger journeymen. He enjoyed the camaraderie with all his coworkers, as long as they kept "his" truck clean.

Derrick will be forever loved and missed by his wife Shirley. Shirley's children, Jack Lamers (Veronica), their daughter Madelyne and Lesley Lamers (Stan), their son Huntur. Grandmother Ann Zale, brothers Todd (Angie), their children Scott and Jennifer, brother Mike, his children Lance, Vanessa and Micheal. Friends who are family, Kevin and Kathy Kortez-Miller, their children Allie and Dawson. He is also by survived by his sister Marla, her children Brett and Mitchell, parents Robert and Myrna Zale.

A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff who touched Derricks life. You were all his angels.

A celebration of Derrick's life will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 am in Hilldale Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Diegel officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service time.

If friends so desire, donations made in memory of Derrick to the Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.
