Obituary for Ms. Tasha Sutton (Kenna)

TASHA SUTTON

Our mother Tasha Sutton, a bright beacon of light who touched so many lives, passed away unexpectedly on November 17, 2022 at the age of 64.

Tasha was a woman of many gifts and talents, the greatest of all being her old soul wisdom and the ability to truly connect with people. She was uniquely herself - pure, warm, genuine - and by just being her, brought immense joy to all who knew her.

Mom was the eldest child of Mabel and John Kenna. Living her first 7 years in Beardmore the family then moved to Nipigon where she lived a full life.

Tasha was blessed to have two amazing love stories. At age 15, Tasha and Robert began dating and were married 7 years later in 1979. Together they welcomed two beloved daughters Cali and Tess who truly were the center of her universe. Even through heartache and loss our mom was a strong, resilient woman who taught us how to love, be compassionate, what the true meaning of strength is and to live in gratitude. She was our rock. She was and is our everything. She was our greatest supporter and instilled in us to believe that anything is possible. It was many years after our dad passed before mom met James (Andy) Anderson. After a long courtship, they married in 2013 and spent 8 happy years together as “Toivo and Tuula”. Through their union she was thrilled and so proud to gain two more children, Kaitlyn and Kyle. Her greatest joy was being a “Mama” to her 8 grandchildren: Mya, Lynden, Emma, Finn, Bennett, Sutton, Stella and Scarlett. Mama’s most favourite moments were those spent with her grandchildren. Whether she was taking them on long walks, falling asleep during a movie, baking and having tea with them, playing barbies or simply calling to check in on their day … these moments she cherished.

Tasha was an immensely spiritual person, deeply connected to nature. She spent countless hours walking to the Marina or down Old Mill Road, hiking her bush trails and paddling on Lake Superior and Lake Nipigon. Her spiritual practices were daily and devout. She had a love of and a true connection to the shores of Lake Nipigon and Poplar Point with its beautiful sand beaches. That same love was mirrored in her adoration of the beaches of Tulum in Mexico.

Throughout her life, Tasha lived to connect with people and be of service. Her genuine heart guided her in everyday living and in her careers as a kindergarten teacher, childcare provider, Naturopath Doctor’s assistant, Insurance Broker, PSW and business owner. She was always learning new things taking many courses, mostly in the wellness field. She excelled in these modalities attaining Master designation in many. Reiki, Reflexology, TT, NLP, Sound Healing, Yoga, Tai Chi, this is a small representation of the various trainings. She endeavored to share her gifts and light open heartedly promoting love and healing. This was her passion … to connect, offer and share. Tasha was actively involved in many committees and organizations, Rotary Club, the Fall Fishing Festival and PARO to name a few. Mom took great pleasure in meeting people and hearing their stories. Her bed and breakfast allowed her the opportunity to do so. She always trusted that the “right people came through the door” to Skandia House. She simply loved people!

Tasha is predeceased by husband Robert and husband James, her parents, Mabel and John, mother-in-law, Betty Sutton and sister-in-law Kerry Vezeau. She is survived by her children: Cali (Ben) Sutton, Tess (Matt) Legacy, Katie (Kolbey) Anderson, and Kyle (Brittany) Anderson, her grandchildren, her little fur daughter Chloe, siblings Greg (Helen) Kenna, Colleen (Jim) Kenna, and her beloved brother, Doug Kenna, father-in-law Bob Sutton, brother-in-law David Sutton (Alba), beloved Aunt, Hazel Nylund, as well as many other cousins, sister-in-laws, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews who she treasured. Throughout her life Tasha had many close friends, that were also her family: Debbie, Jacquie, Maurice, and Nita. We know how grateful Mom was for your love throughout the years.

According to Tasha’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 3 at 11:00, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Nipigon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House or Special Olympics. The family asks that you take a moment to enjoy the beauty of our local area. Take a walk or simply sit quietly outdoors and breathe, and hug your loved ones often and love them fiercely as Tasha loved all of us.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

Mom, we will forever miss your uplifting kind heart and bright light. Your light continues to shine on through us, your grandchildren and all those who loved you dearly.

As above, so below.
