August 24, 1948 - October 18, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Myrtle Clara Wakewich, age 74 years, joining her son Greg in Heaven on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital with her husband Reg and son Reggie by her side.
Myrtle was born on August 24, 1948 in Fort William. She was never afraid of hard work which showed in all that she did. Her early years were spent working jobs as a waitress or cook, although it was not until the late 1980's that she got a job as a cook at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre, where she worked until her retirement.
Myrtle had a love for racing and camping at an early age. She loved to travel with her family to see races all over the United States, especially races with Steve Kinser. No love was greater for Myrtle than the love she had for her family. She had a special light in her eyes when she saw her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Myrtle will be deeply missed by her loving husband Reg; son Reggie and daughter Brenda; daughter-in-law Carol; grandchildren Shayla (Ryan), Colin (Kara) and Laura; great-grandchildren Sean, Rachel, and Ophelia. She is also survived by her brothers Wayne (Joyce), Gordon (Diane), Raymond (Linda) and sister Gladys as well as her sisters-in-law Norma and Shirley; brother-in-law Rick and many brothers and sisters in law from the Wakewich family; many nieces, nephews and cousins from the Wakewich, Monty and Everett families.
Her heart was broken by the passing of her son Gregory in 2017. She was also predeceased by her parents John Everett and Merle Monty; her brothers Harvey, Kenny, Bob and Henry, and sisters Debbie and Grace.
A special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital – 2 North for their care and kindness to Myrtle.
Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Myrtle Wakewich will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 1:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. A private interment will take place in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00pm in the Chapel.
Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Myrtle to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.
