Obituary for Miss Flovia Coriene Whittaker

Flovia Whittaker
August 6, 1921-June 14, 2022

Flovia Coriene Whittaker, resident of Hogarth-Riverview Manor, passed away Tuesday, June 14,2022 at the age of 100. She was born in O’Connor Township, daughter of Hardy and Huldah Whittaker. She was predeceased by brother D’Enycourt Whittaker and sister,Velma Earl.

Flovia was a member of the Free Methodist Church and served faithfully in a number of positions. She was also involved in the Women’s Missionary Society.

Her passion was caring for others - often sharing a meal, a visit or a phone call of concern.  She provided rides to doctor appointments and shopping trips. Flovia was a caregiver for her parents and also assisted in the care of her sister, Velma.

Family was very important to her and she faithfully remembered birthday and Christmas gifts to nieces and nephews. Her home was always open for visitors or overnight guests.

Through the years, Flovia worked as bookkeeper or secretary - Isolation hospital (during the time of polio outbreak), Lorne Park College (Dean of Women), Stady's Garage, The Sanitarium, and she retired from Unitized Manufacturing.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and other handwork. Over the years she knitted dozens of mitts to share.

Flovia is survived by nieces, Donna Grandfield of Thunder Bay and Charlene Cobb (Vernon) of Williamston, Michigan, nephew, Richard Earl (Linda) of Thunder Bay and three generations of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Flovia will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 11:00am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Pastor Chris Fiorito. Interment will follow in the O'Connor Free Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to service time.
