Obituary

Carlo Visintin
May 26, 1933 – January 3, 2021

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Carlo Visintin on Sunday January 3, 2021 at the age of 87.

Born in Motta di Livenza, Italy on May 26, 1933 he was the youngest of 9 children.  In 1957, he embarked on his ocean journey to find new opportunities in Canada.  After settling in Fort William, he called for his love Silvana to join him in Canada and they began their life’s journey together, being married on December 26, 1962.

Carlo loved to sing and was an active member of St Dominic Church choir for many years. He had a light hearted demeanor with an infectious laughter that brought a smile to those around him.  His perfectly timed “Beauty!” was his signature saying.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Silvana, children Dennis (Tina) and Susy (John), grandchildren Maria, David, Andrew (Jill) and Krista (Josh), and great grandchildren, Trayvin and Emma. Carlo will be greatly missed by Albert, Lorna, Jay (Tineke) and Carlye along with many lifelong friends.

The family offers gratitude to Dr. Storkson and Dr. Lai for their care of Dad over the years, and to the first responders and hospital staff for their compassionate care.

Due to the current gathering restrictions, a private funeral service for the late Mr. Carlo Visintin will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Your thoughts and prayers for Silvana and family are greatly appreciated. A video recording of the service will be available on the funeral home website beginning on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Northern Cardiac Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Silvana, Susy and Dennis. Memories come flooding back as I think of Carlo and your family. In you all, we had the best neighbours ever! As a teenager I remember so well how kind Carlo was with his gentle and funloving pleasantries of the day and with such twinkling eyes, he'd always say hello and call us by name. We were a loud family (understatement) and having Carlo, Silvana and those sweet kids next door was nothing short of a blessing. Don't get me started on how much of a kick my Dad got out of Carlo; how much Carlo taught him about gardening and especially tomatoes but most significant, my Dad loved it when Carlo gave him a trim. Silvana, your family and friends had a very positive effect on our family and over the years it has never been forgotten. Loving condolences to you all. Janice Pierce Hilton, Bob and Ron Pierce
